Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Fred Armisen Bid Adieu to Saturday Night Live …

The end of the hottest night clubs in New York. (NBC(

The end of the hottest night clubs in New York. (NBC(

Perhaps Semisonic said it best: “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”

This weekend marked the 38th season finale of Saturday Night Live, arguably one of the best runs the NBC variety show has seen in recent years. This is thanks in large part to fresh featured members like Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon as well as the new repertory cast of Taran Killam, Vanessa Bayer, Bobby Moynihan, and Nasim Pedrad. These relatively young comedians were able to fill the hole made last season by the departures of heavy-hitters Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott, and gave the show, in the words of Bill Hader, “a new sensibility.”

“There’s a joy in seeing a new move from somebody and going, ‘Oh, she can do that,’” Mr. Hader told The New York Times last week.

But the Ben Affleck/Kanye West-hosted finale was also bittersweet, with several major players–including Fred Armisen, Weekend Update’s Seth Meyers (who was also the show’s head writer) and Bill Hader–taking their final bows, leaving the cast virtually unrecognizable from two years ago. (This will especially be true if Jason Sudeikis just makes up his mind already and leaves during the summer.)

Despite the fact that SNL doesn’t usually make a big deal about a player leaving the cast, last year’s tribute to Wiig seems to have upped the ante for their own farewells. Here is how each member said goodbye.

Seth Meyers and Bill Hader: Stefon and Seth Get Married

The perfect end: Fan favorite Stefon finally consumated his love with the Weekend Update anchor in a scene straight out of The Graduate: If The Graduate had featured Anderson Cooper, Gay Urkel, DJ Baby Bok Choy and human traffic cones.

Fred Armisen: Top of the Pops

The Portlandia star got a little help from his musical buddies, including his IFC show’s co-creator Carrie Brownstein, Kim Gordon, Steve Jones, Aimee Mann, J. Mascis and Michael Penn.

Though the sketch wasn’t the funniest of the night, it was, like Wiig’s, a heartfelt goodbye in song, with Armisen ending on the lines, “It’s been all right / I’ve had a lovely night with you.”

Follow Drew Grant via RSS.

  1. Crystal Roy:

Aww bummer. I love LOVE Bill hader! We’ll miss you guys!

  2. Steve Mason:

Sucks to see people go. Especially Hader and Armisen. They really carried the show after Wiig left. It will be nice to have some of the featured cast to step into full time roles and see a couple of new faces. People say SNL will fizzle out when people leave, but then they still watch it every week and it seems to keep a pulse. I’m not worried but I’ll miss the ones leaving. P.S. They need to replace Kenan Thompson. He can’t act and he can’t do impressions. He just puts on costumes and talks in his normal voice. I can’t remember the last time I laughed at anything he’s done.

    1. Jason Edwards:

I always laugh at his al sharpton or Steve Harvey, but thats about it

  3. Jeromy Biazzo:

You all have to give Kenan Thompson more credit. He is really talented just not in the same way as other cast members. He is like oatmeal in the morning. Keeps it all together. I think he is funning and hard working. So there….

Underage Bieber hits up 3 NYC clubs

Justin Bieber was a man — or at least a 19-year-old — out on the town last night!

The pint-sized crooner hit three of Manhattan’s hottest night clubs, even though he’s two years under the legal drinking limit.

1Oak confirmed the “Baby” singer was at their Chelsea club late last night or early this morning.

TMZ reported that Bieber was also partying at Avenue and Marquee during his Manhattan club crawl.

Nightclubs typically only allow guests who are at least 21 and have a valid ID.

Nightclubs have the right to admit guests of any age — as long as booze is only served to people 21 and older, a State Liquor Authority rep said.

Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio has scored his fourth Victoria’s Secret model.

The 38-year-old actor was spotted with 20-year-old German model Toni Garrn in Nice, France on Sunday before he moved on to Ibiza then Italy.

Toni has been a Victoria’s Secret runway model and recently was named as one of the lingerie company’s representative Angels.

Leonardo had been in Nice for the nearby Cannes Film Festival, where his new movie The Great Gatsby was screened for audiences.

He flew over the weekend to Monaco for the Formula One Grand Prix and upon his return with Toni boarded a yacht with friends, before spending the early part of this week in Ibiza.

He was then spotted in Venice on Tuesday night.

‘They’ve been getting quite close over the last week. There is definitely chemistry there,’ a source told the New York Daily News.

News of the apparent new couple comes as Leonardo arrived in Venice with a large group of friends, including billionaire Vladislav Doronin and Inception star Lukas Haas.

Also in attendance were two women – a blonde – who looked quite similar to Garrn – and a brunette.

However, Garrn herself is believed to be back at work in New York after tweeting on Sunday evening: ‘Thanks for showing me such a good and beautiful time South of France!! Back to reality now–NYC.’

Leonardo has been a fan of the Victoria’s Secret stable of models.

He’s also dated former Victoria’s Secret models Gisele Bundchen, Bar Refaeli and Erin Heatherton.

Off topic from the actual article, but in the thumbnail for this article he looks like the splitting image of Jack Nicholson. Wouldn’t it be awesome if they both end up in a movie where they play the same guy at different times in his life?

Leo dates mindless model bimbos… women of accomplishment or substance? Never. He’s a perpetual on the prowl bachelor, offering what… a few minutes standing in the shadow of his fame? But at least he makes no pretense of being any other way. Hopefully the young women realize this is the way he is. I don’t respect him on a personal level, but enjoy watching him in films.

I think they live in a dark world where women are objects and passed around like toys – of course those women get money and jewellery and the high life – there must be others too that are not models who slip under the radar and are used by this kind of men for more sinister stuff – would not trust any of those men / wolves,

Adelson set to attend Jerusalem Summit

Vegas magnet Sheldon G. Adelson, is due to be honoured for his extraordinary contribution to travel and tourism when he makes a rare public appearance at the 2013 International Tourism Summit in Jerusalem next week.

Born into a poor neighbourhood in Boston, Massachusetts, Adelson became an entrepreneur at an early age, creating successful businesses and going on to build casino resorts in Las Vegas and Asia.

Now considered to be one of the most influential businessmen entrepreneurs and philanthropists in the world, with a reported net worth topping $25 billion, Adelson’s career spans more than six decades and has included creating and developing to maturity more than 50 different companies.

Under his leadership, COMDEX became the world’s largest trade show with a presence in many different countries.

Adelson, 79, is also the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corporation, a company which has evolved to become the leading global developer of destination properties.

Las Vegas Sands Corp

Las Vegas Sands Corp operates The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino and the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

In 1988, Adelson acquired the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in a bid to bring Las Vegas to a new source of business from the exhibition industry. The Sands Expo and Convention Center, the first privately owned and operated convention center in the US was built the following year.

In 1991, Adelson razed The Sands, a former hangout for the likes of Frank Sinatra, and invested $1.5 billion to construct The Venetian, a stunning Venice-themed resort hotel and casino.

The Venetian, which was named North America’s Leading Casino Resort by the World Travel Awards in 2010, has since added the 1,013-suite Venezia tower; with 4,049 suites; 18 restaurants and a shopping mall with canals, gondolas and singing gondoliers.

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

In 2011, Adelson opened a casino resort on a historic steel plant in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania as one of five stand-alone casinos to be awarded a slots licence by Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in 2006.

Adelson was involved in spearheading a major project to bring the Sands brand to Macau, China. The one-million-square-foot Sands Macao opened in the People’s Republic of China as the first Las Vegas-style casino in May 2004.

The Venetian Macao, The Plaza Macao and Four Seasons Hotel Macao are also in the Sands portfolio, as well as the most recent addition: Sands Cotai Central, which boasts the world’s largest Conrad, Sheraton and Holiday Inn hotels.

Marina Bay, Singapore

In 2010, Marina Bay Sands opened its doors placing Singapore firmly in the travel and tourism spotlight.  In 2012, the new development scooped a World Travel Award after being voted World’s Leading Casino Resort by thousands of travel industry professionals.

Located along the Marina Bay waterfront, Marina Bay Sands features three cascading hotel towers topped by an extraordinary sky park, ‘floating’ crystal pavilions, a lotus-inspired Museum, retail stores featuring cutting-edge labels and international luxury brands, trendy Celebrity Chef restaurants, endless entertainment at the theaters, the hottest night clubs and a Las Vegas-style casino.

Business visitors can enjoy the extensive Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) facilities featuring state-of-the-art technology, highly flexible exhibition halls, and a convention centre that can host over 45,000 delegates.

George Tanasijevitch, President, Marina Bay Sands, collects coveted award from Graham Cooke, President, World Travel Awards in 2012.

Commenting on the historic, multi-billion dollar development, Adelson stated: “Las Vegas Sands Corporation is excited and ready to join Singapore on a historic journey.

“As a catalyst for the economic future of Singapore and a launch pad for its tourism industry, Marina Bay Sands will help Singapore solidify its standing among the world’s greatest destinations.” He added.

Marina Bay Sands seamlessly combines business and leisure into a singular destination unlike any other.

Second Jerusalem International Tourism Summit 2013

Next week, Sheldon Adelson will be among international tourism leaders expected to gather in Jerusalem, to attend the 2013 International Tourism Summit.

The event will serve as a summit of innovation and showcase discussions about the latest ground breaking technologies and trends introduced by key players of the tourism world.

This year a special emphasis will be placed on ‘Urban Tourism’ as well as innovative technologies in the world of tourism and travel. Global leaders, academics and experts in the field of hospitality will conduct panels discussing a wide range of issues affecting the tourism industry and a special panel will focus on technology in tourism, including tourism-related ‘apps’.

The event will leverage Israel as a Start-Up Nation, and Jerusalem as a leader of technology.

Bahama Mamas (and Papas): Spur staff takes well-deserved vacation to tropical location

What is hot and sunny with writing all over? The Spur staff’s trip to the Bahamas, of course! This past spring break, the Spur’s writers and editors took a break from slaving away to produce the bi-weekly issues to soak up some sun and enjoy a few pina coladas (virgin, of course).

“It was a much needed break,” said news editor Kim Watkins. “We never take group trips, so we had the outlandish idea of splurging on a tropical vacation!” The trip was paid for with club funds, revenue from ad sales, and a generous allotment of spontaneous request money courtesy of SAFAC. “It worked out great too, since we weren’t really sure what we were going to do with the thousands of dollars of extra club money we had lying around—oops, don’t print that,” said editor-in-chief Katie Stromme.

The staff enjoyed many activities during their trip, including swimming with dolphins, zip-lining, skydiving, and visiting locations such as Pink Sands Beach, Thunderball Grotto, and Deadman’s Reef. They also immersed themselves in the Bahamian culture by learning dances such as the Quadrille and the Heel and the Toe Polka.

The Spur staff also trotted out their contemporary dance moves at some of the area’s hottest night clubs. Live tweets from the group’s night out appeared on the Spur’s Twitter account, including “SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS” and “drank so much I forgot how 2 format d8s in AP style.”

“All our adventures in the Bahamas were great inspiration for our writing,” explained AE editor Amber Casperson. “It was just what we needed to fill up our tanks to finish out the rest of this semester.”

“I got the chance to continue my research on the culture of strip clubs, which was really fantastic,” said commentary editor Dan Kilkelly. “I think this will go a long way towards improving my credibility as a journalist.” Kilkelly reportedly left various “research locations” with lengthy interview notes as well as an empty wallet.

Mysteriously absent from the trip was the club’s advisor, Ryan Wendland. Bringing an adult like Wendland along would have been “a real bummer, to be totally honest,” mused Stromme. “He’s just so old, like, he’s got to be almost forty or something.”

“Those ungrateful bastards,” said Wendland, upon hearing about the club’s trip. “I give them six years of my life and they don’t even ask if I want to come.” Wendland will reportedly not be returning as advisor for the Spur for the 2013/2014 school year.

So what’s next on the agenda for the Spur staff?

“We’ve been thinking about a trip to China,” said Watkins. “Based on the paper’s impressive local success, we’ve been considering selling it at various locations around the globe, so we’re pretty sure there will be sufficient funds.”
