ULSTER COUNTY, N.Y. — An entire festival dedicated to pancake’s favorite topping, the Maple Fest made for a sweet day at the Ashokan Center in Ulster County.

Complete with musical acts, an all-day pancake breakfast, and crafts, people of all ages found something to do. Festival-goers even had the chance to try blacksmithing, broom-making, and could tap a maple tree. Event coordinators said there’s a lot to learn at the Maple Fest.

“Well there are so many elements of maple sugaring here, whether it’s history or the economics or the good old taste of maple syrup on buckwheat pancakes that we’re serving here. It’s actually part of our educational program at the Ashokan Center. We’re not doing this as a business; but, we do work with lots of students that come from all over New York State who come and spend days with us. And, one of the programs that they’re involved in is making syrup and learning how that all works,” said Wayne Turner, Ashokan Center Executive Director.

Organizers said the weather this weekend was perfect for sapping.
